new Walk Aerobics program helps residents receive a cardiovascular workout and for some – lose weight. Previously an Activities Coordinator, Sandy Rotermund recently returned to Patriots Colony in the position of Wellness Coordinator. She conducted a resident survey while planning the fitness program. “Many had goals which included muscle strengthening, flexibility, and weight management,” commented Sandy. She continued “For weight management, aerobic activity is critical.”

The class is 45 minutes in length and begins with a walk around the perimeter of the Multi-Purpose Room for the first 10 minutes as a warm-up. The next 30 minutes are devoted to low-impact aerobic movement, which is similar to walking. “These are easy steps in different directions, with arms moving along with legs. This activity is followed by a cool down and stretch period,” said Sandy, who also noted that residents cover the equivalent of 2.5 – 3 miles.
