new Walk Aerobics program
helps residents receive a cardiovascular workout and for some –
lose weight. Previously an Activities Coordinator, Sandy Rotermund recently
returned to Patriots Colony in the position of Wellness Coordinator.
She conducted a resident survey while planning the fitness program.
“Many had goals which included muscle strengthening, flexibility,
and weight management,” commented Sandy. She continued “For
weight management, aerobic activity is critical.” |
The class is 45 minutes in length and begins with a walk around the perimeter of the Multi-Purpose Room for the first 10 minutes as a warm-up. The next 30 minutes are devoted to low-impact aerobic movement, which is similar to walking. “These are easy steps in different directions, with arms moving along with legs. This activity is followed by a cool down and stretch period,” said Sandy, who also noted that residents cover the equivalent of 2.5 – 3 miles. cont.
