Carol Swink, a resident who had two hip
replacements, participates in the program and loves it. “The more
you take part in this class, the less you huff and puff,” said
Carol. The program is paced to meet everyone’s requirements.
“If it gets too strenuous, you can slow your pace, get a drink,
or keep on moving your legs, then go back and participate again,”
remarked Carol, who attends twice each week.
Experts say that in order for your cardiovascular
system to improve, three aerobic activities per week with 20 minutes or
more of sustained activity are required. “After each class,
participants’ metabolism is elevated for two hours,” said
Sandy. She encourages residents to engage in another aerobic exercise
each week. Carol Swink bicycles in the fitness room or takes part in
the dynaband class to supplement her work-out. “If you have 3
aerobic work-outs in a week,” said Sandy, “your overall
metabolism will be elevated.”
Some residents say it takes only two weeks to feel
a difference in their energy level and endurance. “It’s fun
exercise and it keeps you going,” said Carol, “plus we
workout to music, which I like.”
