On Jamestown Island, Larry Thrower, Ralph Townley, Diane Stallings, Nell Bancroft, and Bob Lamb work together educating visitors about this unique early American historical site.
With so many interesting historical sites nearby, Patriots Colony residents have a wide choice of places to volunteer their time. Jamestown Island, a National Park Service site that is only a 10-minute drive from Patriots Colony, was the first permanent English settlement, established in 1607. Situated on the James River, with woods, open fields, and a five mile loop road, the island is a pleasant spot for walking and bird watching.
Patriots Colony residents often volunteer to enrich themselves, and support their community. Volunteers are desperately needed by organizations in order to prosper. "It's nice to see people from all over the world," said Eloise Levy, a volunteer at JamestownIsland's visitor information desk for the past four years. "We couldn't run the visitor center operations without them," acknowledged Diane Stallings, Supervisory Park Ranger with Colonial National Historical Park. "They're a critical, integral part of the team at Jamestown."
